The engine that manufactured the volume of hits necessary to pull Reginald Dwight out of local obscurity.
The primary artifact of the early career was the collaborative partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin. Their workflow was direct: Taupin would hand over a completed set of lyrics, and John would sit at the piano to compose a fully realized piece of music, often in less than an hour.
This hyper-focused, collaborative micro-environment stood in stark contrast to the flamboyant persona brought to the live concert stage during the same period.
